Ring Entrapment

Patients with ring entrapment may present after an injury that causes swelling leading to inability to remove the ring. Patients will also frequently present with an entrapped ring without injury and may have swelling with or without pain in the absence of trauma.
Exam reveals variable degrees of swelling and tenderness over the site of injury and a ring in place. There may be skin injury from the trauma or pressure from the ring.
