ED Management
The management of pathologic fractures is often different from fractures of normal bone and requires orthopedic surgery involvement since pathologic bone does not typically heal the same as normal bone.
The urgency of specialist involvement depends on several factors, such as:
- The location of the fracture (i.e. a weightbearing area)
- Severity of the fracture
- If the lesion is malignant or benign
- If malignant, is it new or preexisting malignancy
- Ability for rapid specialty follow-up
