Hand Case 5 ED Management

Bennett's Fracture

ED Management

Closed reduction and thumb spica immobilization are effective in the treatment of Bennett fractures if the reduction can be maintained. The closed reduction technique consists of thumb traction combined with metacarpal extension. Reduction is often not maintained due to the pull of the APL, and open reduction and internal fixation or closed reduction with pinning is often indicated. Patients with the injury require prompt follow-up with a hand specialist.
