Hand Case 5 Diagnosis

Bennett's Fracture

Diagnosis

Standard thumb and hand radiographs will demonstrate the injury at the base of the first metacarpal. It appears as an avulsion fracture of the articular surface of the first metacarpal with subluxation at the carpometacarpal joint.

Another important fracture at the base of the first metacarpal is the Rolando fracture, which is a comminuted fracture at the base of the first metacarpal. This fracture occurs much less commonly, but carries a much worse prognosis.
