Leg/Knee Case 9 ED Management

Bipartite Patella

ED Management

Without symptoms this bipartite patella is an incidental finding without necessary intervention. If symptomatic after trauma, treat as if it is a fracture since this may have occurred. If there is chronic pain associated with a bipartite patella, non-urgent orthopedic referral is advised. A surgeon may elect to fuse the bones or excise the fragment.
