Ankle Case 2 History/Physical Exam

Distal fibula fracture

History and Physical Exam

Lateral malleolar and distal fibula fractures are usually sustained from ankle inversions. Patients typically have swelling, ecchymosis, and tenderness to palpation along the lateral border of the ankle joint. Exam should also assess for medial ankle tenderness since bi- or tri-malleolar injuries are less stable.
